What is natural to many people from Andalusia, is something internationals need to learn from zero.
I am a flamenco singer from the Netherlands, where I perform and teach.
I wasn’t born into flamenco and I didn’t grow up hearing cante at family gatherings. So, starting to learn flamenco singing was challenging for me.
Starting out, I asked every question you might be asking now. And the problem isn’t that flamenco is impossible to learn. It’s just that many things are never explained in a way foreigners understand them.
So I created the tools I wish had existed when I started.
I’ve been a singer since the age of 12 but, I haven’t always sung flamenco. As a young girl I started with classical and jazz music education, which gave me some tools to later analyse and understand flamenco singing on a technical level.
